Be prepared for all weather
Making sure you are dressed for the conditions will keep you safe, comfortable, and having fun with your friends all day long.

Never go alone
Always have an adult with you, either in the water or watching from the beach. Plus, they get to see you shred all the waves you catch!

Wear a leash
Your board floats, so wearing a leash keeps it close to you for safety and helps prevent it from hitting others around you.

Know your limits
Always start off in small conditions. Over time as you improve and gain experience, you can then progress to bigger surf.

Read the signs
Always check the beach signs. They can warn you about rips, dangerous marine life, or other hazards.

Never turn your back on the ocean
Waves can sneak up fast. Always face out to sea so you're ready.

Learn to read rips
Have an adult show you where the rips are and the safest place to surf. If you get caught in a rip, stay calm and swim across the current, not against it.

Raise your arm if you are in trouble
Keep your arm high above your head so someone can see you need help.

Respect the ocean
Look out for marine life, pick up your rubbish (and rubbish left by others), and leave only footprints.

Surfing manners
Be friendly, wait your turn, listen and learn. Older surfers love seeing you having fun. Watch what they do, respect the line-up, and listen to their advice.
